I want to explain why the messages published today matter. Not just because they’re offensive, but because they rely on very old racist tropes that are still used to undermine people of color (especially women) when we hold power. 🧵

When my colleagues of color say, "Hey, I think this framing is racist and here's why" they do so because they know these chats exist everywhere and the work of tearing down our racist institutions is far from done. The worst thing you can do is walk away from that conversation feeling victimized.

I will support this mask ban as swiftly as possible. While local gov has limited tools / powers to address the federal government we must do everything we can with the tools we have. Requiring ICE to prove they're law enforcement when they snatch our neighbors off our streets is the bare minimum.
