I was pretty upset to learn about this. I think this was a poor decision and it threatens to set us back. We need people like Director Hisserich to help us chart a path out of our high cost housing system, and actually build something that working class folks can afford. 🚩

It's worth noting that the new Westside TIF district does not include Big Pink. That means recovery of that assessed value will accrue to all relevant jurisdictional coffers for broad use instead of being locked into multiple decades of urban renewal specific use.

I said this in a reply to a comment yesterday, but want to make this statement clear and direct here: Please don't assume that Councilor Zimmerman is doing anything but working to keep Portlanders safe during this period of Federal escalation. What I have seen is care, urgency and integrity.

Trump’s deployment of troops to Portland is a dangerous escalation of authoritarianism. Now is the time to find our own ways of standing up and fighting back to preserve our democracy. Fellow vets: we need you to muster. And those serving: you can refuse an unlawful order as you may receive it.

I don’t want to hear anymore “Portland is dying” narrative or vague complaints about “ANTIFA” as the clarion call for action in the city. All of that led to Trump targeting us. Groups like People for Portland, associated right-wing media ecosystem, and political opportunists own this.
