Pretty cool that Portland City Council unanimously passed a resolution a few weeks ago that would speed up the planning project to legalize building homes like these in Portland's Inner Eastside, so many more neighbors can live in areas with clean air!

Last week, Chair Vega Pederson sent a letter to the Portland City Council in support of the "Eastside Area Planning Project" resolution that would promote more housing construction and healthier neighborhoods. In exciting news, the City Council unanimously approved the resolution!

Genuinely portland remains affordable because of activism and policy that powers this. A lot of people complain to me how expensive Portland is until I tell them I had to put down $9,819.50 for a 5-bedroom rental in DC (deposit + one months rent + fees) at age 23.

It's amazing what the Residential Infill Project did for affordability of new construction in Portland. Here are the single-unit properties for sale in the city completed this year; these price points were rare prior to RIP.

it’s indeed cause for concern there’s not more new homes being built in the center of town closest to the jobs, transit, and walkable neighborhoods people love - and that’s precisely why @pnwelcome.bsky.social has been pushing the Inner Eastside for All campaign:

Brand new homes, built this year, west of I-205, for sale around $400k is a remarkable accomplishment. So much more to do, but i think it’s an underreported story how much RIP has been critical for getting new homes online in Portland while big multifamily construction is still largely on pause

Yesterday, City Council questioned why millions in housing funds went unspent and why the funds were undisclosed last Fall. New records show efforts to keep councilors from experts. Officials knew about $21 million for rent aid in 2025 but didn’t inform the council during budget talks.

Housing justice is realized one step at a time. I am proud to share that City Council unanimously adopted the Inner Eastside for All resolution last week. Another step in the right direction, East. Together, we are building a Portland that says: Neighbors are Welcome here.

I lived in the fastest growing zip code in the U.S. for 6 years and guess what. It rocked. I saw a lot of cranes and cool buildings and so many new neighbors! Life rocked! This is my argument in favor of Inner Eastside For All.

It feels so damn good to be at Portland City Hall tonight for the Inner Eastside for All Resolution rally and Council hearing. The first @pnwelcome.bsky.social annual gathering that I attended was the 2022 event where we voted to pursue Inner Eastside for All as our next big housing campaign.

It’s been so great to see @councilormorillo.bsky.social take the lead on this!!! The faster we get the ball rolling on zoning the faster we get more homes in these high opportunity, transit-rich neighborhoods!

This proposal is the culmination of years of community work. @pnwelcome.bsky.social led a coalition of 20+ organizations housing advocates, environmental justice groups, climate activists, transportation reformers in the “Inner Eastside For All” campaign to push for this upzone.
