By who? Who shot the person dead? You saw the video. We all know a federal agent shot a man dead who was prone on the ground. Also, it's not "according to officials." It's according to verified video seen with your eyes. Not saying what anyone can obviously see with their eyes is a form of lying.

She was held in ICE detention in Tacoma for 4.5 months and has now been released, but she needs help affording an apartment. Her son is currently in the custody of the State of Oregon.

On MLK Day, over a dozen protesters performed a sit-in at the Portland ICE facility. Federal agents met them with pepper balls, mace, and multiple arrests. Video of the incident can be found on my other socials, but these photos depict an enraged America meeting violence with civil disobedience.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of a piece in my life. Honored to have been able to tell this story. It pains me every time I watch it, but I hope that pain can do something good for the world. Please give it a watch and share widely.

The media needs to stop referring to crowd controls as “nonlethal.” ICE agents shot a 21-yr-old in the eye with a metal/plastic projectile and nearly put shrapnel in his carotid artery. “Nonlethal” and “less-than-lethal” are inaccurate descriptors.

Loretta Smith continues to suggest Mayor Wilson should break the tie for council president. Again, I see an immediate issue. In the event of a tie, the acting president could effectively rely on the mayor’s vote if they cater to the mayor’s interests throughout their tenure. For example…

“We cannot be on the frontline with labor picketing ourselves.” That’s Councilor Smith last week on why she thinks Councilor Kanal is not fit to be council president. Smith has been nominated for council president by Councilor Zimmerman. This story could easily throw a wrench into that.

There have been no security threats to staff or anyone reported to security here, according to the security team lead for council protection detail.

Portland City Council President Vote Update: Zimmerman nominated Smith and Novick. (I missed a lot of discussion on this). Morillo says many councilors “endured psychic and moral damage” yesterday, referring to comments that many felt were race-based attacks. Here’s the main sticking point:

Every ICE officer should be tried for crimes against humanity.

This is one frame before an ICE agent summarily executed a 37-year-old mother. He was not in danger. He was on the side of the vehicle. The vehicle veers to the right of him after she’s shot and he easily steps away.

The Portland City Council voting has ended for the day without a president chosen for the next year. Many councilors were clearly frustrated in the final comments. Picking back up tomorrow.

Dan Ryan makes the call for the day to end with everyone getting a few minutes to speak. Councilors say it’s gotten personal. Seems extremely unlikely that anyone will break ranks today.

Vote is still 6-6. Koyama-Lane weighs in saying it’s an “old playbook” that public safety officials are afraid of the brown man on city council (meaning police are afraid of Sameer Kanal as Pres.). She also noted that Kanal had more votes in D2 in the election if that needed to be a tie break.

VP Koyama-Lane has again shared concern and about President Pirtle-Guiney’s leadership, saying she has not been allowed into weekly meetings with the county clerk for a year.

Second vote tied again at 6-6, no vote changes. The main sort of concession I’ve seen is that Kanal said he would leave the progressive caucus (Peacock) if elected council president. So far this did not sway Novick. Seems like we’re in for a long haul here.

Portland City Council President Update: First vote ties 6-6 between Kanal and Pirtle-Guiney. No surprises on who voted for who. Steve Novick commented that he’s uncomfortable voting for someone in the Peacock group (the progressive group on council). Will try to update more as this progresses.
