I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

It’s worth noting that this march was during the day and was entirely peaceful. It’s also worth noting that by and large, the protests that endure police violence under the cover of night are also entirely peaceful.

Mayor Wilson has now indicated he will expedite the rule making process for the Detention Facility Impact Fee. I am grateful for that. We also need District Attorney Nathan Vasquez to outline how he plans to hold ICE agents accountable for the unlawful use of tear gas against a group of families.

what impressed me most today was that a huge crowd of people who mostly had never been tear gassed managed to retreat without running or trampling each other. under a cloud of gas that was not moving (zero wind), people held onto each other and walked blind down a street packed tight as sardines

Today @councilorgreen.bsky.social and I sent a letter to Mayor Wilson urging the Executive Branch to use their administrative powers to protect Portlanders from the Federal Government. City council can pass policy but that policy is only as effective as the Executive Branch is willing to execute it.

This mid-afternoon Alex Pretti vigil at the Portland VA was not heavily promoted. But the crowd probably stretches a quarter mile or more. Americans are galvanized and grieving.
