We wonāt accept a budget that doesnāt adequately support critical services like public safety and parks, and that favors private contractors over public sector workers. Portland can be āthe City that Worksā again if we reject austerity and fund critical services, (1)

We passed Green 3 which cut the sweeps budget by $1M. Itās a small reduction, but it earmarks those funds to support things like hygiene stations, expanded low barrier workforce programs, etc. It makes a small down payment on dignity by reducing slightly the violence of sweeps.

Itās dehumanizing to propose a budget that cuts salaries for the rank and file by laying them off and inviting them to reapply and lower their salary. Itās a choice to do that instead of address the very exorbitant salaries in upper management.

Mayor Wilson says that itās dehumanizing to say we need to āchop from the topā when we describe where we look in the org chart to balance a budget. I disagree, but what is dehumanizing is chastising city workers for attending budget town halls as if they are not Portlanders, too.

We're not going back to business as usual. We will continue to fight to undo generations of mismanagement and harm that the old system created. Fortunately, small donations from the many are matched 10 - 1 to overcome the big money politics of the few.

Before I left the Moda small group bc I refused to submit to nondisclosure requirements, we had discussed the need for a robust public process and that negotiations hadn't even begun - how does the Gov get to a funding a package in six weeks from that, in the middle of an annual budget process?

Demanding a transparent, public process where Portlanders know what they get for their money is not 'playing politics.' It's good governance and fiscal stewardship. It's deeply unserious to suggest that the only thing that matters is locking up seven votes on council, by locking the public out.

Not doing just a bit here: my office will be moving forward with some oversight on this. Hereās why: fundamentally, we changed our form of government to move away from backroom dealing on matters of public interest. Using code names for recurring meetings like this runs counter to transparency.
