“We keep each other safe when ICE shows up in our neighborhoods, it’s not politicians who stop them,” she said. “It’s neighborhood whistles, with their phones out, standing shoulder and shoulder, forcing them out of our communities.”

"Councilor Candace Avalos said the recent shooting victims were her constituents in her city council district, arguing that 'this is what the Trump administration’s deportation agenda looks like.' She called for the audience to keep organizing until ICE agents leave the city."

And Councilor Candace Avalos said it was time to act more forcefully locally. “We are not waiting for Congress to save us,” she said.

You can feel like something is inevitable and still experience shock. Many of us knew something like this would happen, bc things like this have already happened, bc law enforcement functions with impunity, bc ICE kept drawing its guns on observers. But emotional and moral shock can still occur.

Yikes. I agree with the statements from the Councilors wholeheartedly. I was homeless in VA for over 6 years because there was no access to housing services. All I could find was way to donate to the orgs that supposedly were meant to assist me. Housing isn't affordable in the slightest.

Mayor Wilson sent an email to city councilors Tuesday saying the city will begin enforcing 120-day stay limits at its alternative shelter sites. The rules are intended to incentivize people into using the emergency shelter system to obtain housing, despite the lack of available affordable housing.

Tonight, the President of the United States has launched an unconstitutional war of aggression, dooming another generation to spill their blood for oil, and lay waste to a sovereign nation. I demand that Congress exercise its power, halt this conflict, and impeach this war criminal president.

It leaves the U.S. in charge of managing the future of Venezuela, with potential consequences for American lives and treasure. It is way past time for Congress to reassert its proper constitutional powers.

Far from being a simple surgical strike, this action to remove Maduro will reverberate in unexpected and significant ways. It undermines our defense of sovereignty, reducing our authority regarding actions China might take against Taiwan or Putin against Ukraine.

Once again, U.S. foreign policy is all about oil, regime change, and might makes right. This military operation violated our own Constitution which requires Congressional approval for acts of war.
