Re: gen-x discourse. I am reminded of something a former NYPD officer told me. He said 90% of cops are assholes. 10% are the absolute best people you will ever meet. Not sure about cops, but I think this may be true for my generation. (If you are reading this and gen-x you are in the 10%)

My husband and son were hit by a car and both sustained serious head injuries. Our son (22 months) did not survive. Neither were wearing helmets but no one yells at them about that b/c they were pedestrians in a crosswalk. If you're not putting a helmet on to walk to the grocery store, maybe MYOB

During the #PCCStrike we talked a lot about the gendered division of labor. I'm oversimplifying, but women did the heavy lifting on the line (organizing, set-up, food, clean-up) while it was disproportionately men involved in negotiations, esp. sidebars and backchannel conversations. BUT...1/3

The Bennings administration will be remembered for its grift, greed, and cruelty and a board that supported/enabled it. It will also be remembered for a strike that empowered workers to reject this kind of leadership, forcefully. We (and our students!) deserve better.

The dereliction of duty by the PCC Board of Directors is shocking. Spring term hangs in the balance for thousands of students.

Not going to link but the Oregonian Ed Board coming out against restorative pay for striking PCC workers is class solidarity for bosses. Students understand this, which is why they are unequivocally on the side of teachers and staff #PCCStrike

One reason the PCC unions are winning the public relations war is that we don't have professional public relations people doing all of our comms. It's just teachers, staff, and students talking about how they are trying to go to school and afford groceries.

Important to note that PCC refuses to offer restorative pay for striking workers but they also want us to catch up on all the work we missed, including submitting grades.

Yesterday, the PCC administration asked us to arrive at 8am and promised to have a proposal in our hands by 8:30. We did not reveive a proposal until nearly 11am. Mediation is a lot of sitting around, but it's not unproductive. SO much happens when nothing is happening at the table.

I was glad to stand with striking faculty and staff at PCC Rock Creek. The people on strike are deeply committed to the success of Portland Community College and PCC relies on their work to be successful. It’s time for a contract that reflects the respect and dignity they have earned.

1am dispatch after arriving home from 15 hours of mediation and realizing holy shit, we're actually going on strike tomorrow. This will be the first community college strike in Oregon's history. Both PCC unions will be on strike.

I've worked at PCC for 17 years, served in union leadership for 10 of those, and this is my fourth time serving on my union (@pccffap.bsky.social) 's bargaining team. I love PCC and I love my colleagues, and I want to share a little bit about why we are preparing to go on strike next week.

If the strikes drag on, PCC could be a case study for whether unemployment benefits strengthen the determination of employees to hold out for a better deal.

Thanks @wweek.com and @joannah11.bsky.social for covering my union's potentially history-making strike. We do not wish to be a test case for SB 916, but it's nice to know that our members will have access to unemployment benefits if this drags on a few weeks
