The testimony last night was unlike anything I've ever seen before. The grief and rage of students, faculty, and staff was palpable. Calling out board members and administrators by name, reading their own words back to them. Incredibly powerful, courageous stuff. I'm proud to stand with them ✊

As a professor in this program I can attest that the PCC administration’s decision to cut it has nothing to do with fair budgeting decisions or the programs true value. It was a mistake that they refuse to rectify. When PCC workers go on strike know that this decision was one of the reasons!

So much love for the Music and Sonic Arts program. The advocacy from students, faculty, and community members has been so moving. I hope PCC leaders do the right thing and reverse this terrible decision.

Today I was walking in my neighborhood when a man pulled over next to me, rolled down his window and shouted "The only rights you have are the ones men gave to you!" Sadly, he drove away before I could thank him.

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

Today I saw ICE gas little white kids in the streets of Portland with chemical weapons. Imagine what they're doing to brown and black kids in the detention camps

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

I keep getting questions about why my union isn't participating in the "general strike" I/we are 100% in solidarity with all of it but we just declared impasse and are headed for an actual strike over wages and benefits. Members are confused. Wish we would have picked a different word for today.

Dems waffling on tax reform are accepting (among other things) $50M in cuts to my kids' school district. Kids are sitting on cabinets b/c there's no room for 40+ chairs, teachers asking for pencil donations. There is nothing left to cut! DO SOMETHING you absolute cowards.

If you write about public health, I am begging you to stop using car crash deaths as a foil. The implication that we accept some kinds of child deaths but not others is very painful to people (including me) who have lost children in crashes. These deaths are preventable, too.

The mayor says something really important about something that's bugged me for a long time: that we force grieving families to relive their trauma over and over again as they lobby elected officials asking them to do the right thing. I am so glad to hear him say those days are over.

This story is so upsetting. I wonder if Portland law enforcement would be open to talking with crash victims/surviving family members about driver accountability.

My one-and-only mother was hit & killed by a car on Wednesday. I am all the adjectives you can imagine: shattered, devastated, bereft. And no hour has passed in the last 48 where I have not felt unbelievably lucky, overwhelmed with gratitude for all the time I got to be her daughter.

My son Seamus died 15 years ago today. He was killed by a careless driver in a crosswalk. He walked at 9 months, almost as if he knew he wouldn’t have much time. His favorite thing to do was throw rocks into water. He loved the moon. He called butterflies “buddy buddies.” I miss him every day.
