Caving for nothing means that Democrats are the ones responsible for the shutdown because they could have taken this shit deal weeks ago.

The correct thing to do is to make every Senate Democrat beg for mercy. They’re all guilty. If not for this vote, then for letting Schumer remain leader after the previous nonsense in March.

Warner is up for reelection. He was widely seen driving towards surrender behind the scenes, but he's voting no in public because it's unpopular. The real question is whether he supports a senate leadership change. If not, someone who supports senate leadership change should primary him.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.

This seems a long way of explaining why Dems caved. Keep in mind that Fetterman himself accused Democrats of needlessly shutting down the government. There is no evidence that the shutdown bringing attention to ACA subsidies *alone* would make voters hold Republicans accountable

My read here is the DNC (which is distinct from "leadership of the Senate") is more aware and more realistic already about 2026 being a broad anti-incumbent year (irrespective of party) than I would have expected at this point in time. They are expecting a significant change in lineup next year.

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.
