Did stuff in the US Senate for a bunch of years. The regime sucks. Remove it. Signal: @SenateGabe.33

I've said it before & just because he's gotten less popular doesn't make it less true: The American constitution is currently operating as a dictatorship or monarchy

Look, I am not going to pretend I am an expert on how to fight fascism in the United States. But I do know I was organizing a massive nationwide "protest" and attached zero demands, I would hope people would rip me to pieces for it.

I maintain that No Kings is a release valve funded by billionaires that has zero substantive demands and I find it insane how even some scholars of authoritarianism are not willing to point this out.

I was talking about how impressed I was with the fascists SAVE Act strategy last week but now I am not so sure. They keep changing what their goals are and how they are going to do it. And Mike Lee is clearly not willing to go the whole way in pissing off the rest of the caucus.

Just some background on this situation: The current parliamentarian will indeed overrule most of the SAVE Act changes. That being said, it is very easy to fire the parliamentarian if they do something disliked. In fact a Republican leader did just this in the Bush years.

The problem they are going to run into with this strategy is that Trump is actually the most powerful person in the history of human civilization. That his opinion changing 10 times a day is "not manageable" is true. But he is still the most powerful person in the history of human civilization.

As I wrote earlier this year, the conventional wisdom — that “moderate” xenophobia will draw voters away from the far right — is not supported by any recent elections, from America to Europe.

Part of the reason I lean a lot less on structural explanations for political decisions and focus more on the people is I've seen it. Politicians make snap decisions all the time about a wide range of topics in ways that completely contradict the "rules".
