The reason a lot of white people can operate in the privilege of a comment like “we used to be able to have dissenting opinions & now they break friendships” is because the people of color in the room had to be silent in order to remain in the room safely.

The thing I respect about Greta Thunberg is that she understands most people in the Western world don’t give a shit about atrocities until someone white is affected. So she’s doing what needs to be done to keep up the pressure. If more white folks followed that example, we’d all be fine.

The regime is acting this way because there are no consequences so it is clear that consequences—the development of them, the advocacy for them, the imposition on bad behavior—are the answer to our crisis.

These assholes attempted a coup two weeks before Biden took office and he replied by not mentioning it, lobbing it over to the Senate, and pressing for a rapid impeachment, which led to the shortest (and most forgettable) impeachment trial in history, for the worst ever violation of our democracy

the singular failure of the Biden era was not jailing Trump and his high-level coup plotters for that crime while Biden controlled the federal government; this failure is manifest now in Trump having blanket permission to rule as a king from SCOTUS and the default loyalty of federal police. Hell!

I just cannot stop thinking about how 2020 had the largest mass protests in US history and the first electorate in half a century where more voters picked a candidate than sat out. I feel like these two facts are deeply connected.
