Sitting under the learning tree. Pedantry Isn't Wit and Contrarianism Isn't Wisdom.
It is with a heavy heart that I report today I did actually see someone riding in the passenger seat of a cybertruck. RIP to one of my all time favorite Twitter/BlueSky jokes.

He may want to, but bragging about it would infuriate the moon landing deniers and the flat earthers, and he can't afford to alienate any more key GOP demographics like that

If someone breaks the law and nobody enforces it because of the offender’s power, then the law does not apply to the powerful, and the law, subordinated to power, is revealed as illegitimate in its helplessness and/or corruption.

It doesn’t hate only its own children; it hates *all* children with such awful ferocity I don’t think it’s all down to how conservative Christianity itself views children but I do think that’s a huge part of the psychology behind it

If anyone is selling you the opportunity to make money, *you* are how *they* make money and the 'secret' they have is convincing people like you to pay them. There will be a lot of smoke & mirrors to make it look like you have agency, but the product is your gullibility.

We have been, and operated as, a de-facto empire for ages. We don't officially call it that for the same reason that the Vietnam War wasn't officially called a war.

I've said this before, but there are two kinds of people in the world. - People who have suffered or been traumatized by something, and think it's unfair unless everyone else also suffers - People who have suffered or been traumatized by something and don't want anyone else to experience that.

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

The history teacher is going to be stuck on “why didn’t the Biden admin punish sedition and why was a seditionist even allowed to run for president again” for a long, long time…Americans stopped believing they had a functional government long before they started believing they had a fascist one

It's the internet. Don't put shit on it you don't want people to know about. Was true when we were all in IRC and it's true now. Only difference is at this point the corporations figured out how to make a tidy profit off the human foibles; the game hasn't changed even if the stakes have.

And one final thought: Ozzy going out after giving an emotional final performance that raised a ton of money for charity is more spiritually uplifting and did more genuine good than anything any televangelist and religious grifter who railed against him ever did combined.

If you are too young to remember the Iraq War, you'll hear "no one protested" and "no one knew they were lying." Millions of people knew they were lying and protested. The press not only did not want a record of mass dissent; they did not want a record of mass knowledge of lies.

The appeal of de-regulation is the bias of living in a THOROUGHLY REGULATED world. "I would simply be fine" is easy to project into the future when you've has spent your life actively protected from harms you literally cannot imagine because you've mistaken the protection as inherent to reality

The protests & slowdowns & leaks & refusals to comply & boycotts & strikes & antifascist art & gumming up the works & sanctuary projects & all the other stuff that we’ve got to run all at once have to feel like that too. Break their hold bit by bit. Here, there, & over here too, until - whoosh.

We need awake ourselves of the materialistic, capitalist view of the world, where people are either customers or marks. Capitalism will sell you the rope to hang yourself with & then make you pay for the coffin & pass the debt onto your kids. People must say enough and make the oligarchs fear US

Yup. The whole ethos of Reaganism and the neoliberal project was “we can’t segregate public services, so let’s divest from and privatize everything”. Everything today is the logical conclusion of that decision.

It's just transparently obvious that no company has the business model of providing a good or service in exchange for money anymore. They all went "You can have a way higher profit margin if you just charge money and don't give anyone anything." Insurance is only the most obvious example.

Anyone saying that stuff is a distraction simply isn’t affected by it. But, of course, they actually are. Because the whole point is that Republican are chopping away at each group individually before they get to the rest. You aren’t exempt. They are just making sure you stand by for your turn.

Then it hit me: The big success of the US right over the last decade or so, helped by a cadre of centrists, is convincing a lot of people that the Democratic Party is whoever you think is the most radical, most annoying person on the internet. Therefore, voting Republican is a vote against them. 3/x
