This is a very good encapsulation of how a lot of us feel about the impact of AI on a day to day basis which is that using it to find information can be more helpful than Google but a lot of that is because Google has gotten much worse

Pay attention to the things fat people won’t do. We know the built environment is crumbling because it collapses for us first. We know air travel is getting shittier because it pinches us the hardest. We know medical care is getting more expensive and more evil because it make us the problem.

*That* is why it's important to exclude non-photorealistic drawings, paintings, artwork, etc, from the fundamental definition of CSAM. It undoes a lot of that work to put the child victim and the impact on them front and center in how we talk about the issue.

Calling material that's produced through an act of sexual abuse against a child "CSAM" makes it very obvious that it *is*, inherently, sexual abuse and the child cannot consent to it. It puts the child victim and the impact on them at the center of the definition.

The more we make it clear, in how we define and talk about it, that "pornography" should *only* include adult humans whose participation arises from freely given and uncoerced consent, the more we clearly we establish that coerced or forced participation is not acceptable.

The same applies to "deepfakes", photo manipulation, etc, with an identifiable specific child as the subject: the act of sexual abuse is the harm caused to the child by presenting an altered image as reality and causing others to view the child as having been sexually abused.

CSAM, "child sex abuse material", is inherently and definitionally the visual memorialization or recording of an act of child sex abuse. It's in the name. Material that does not include a) a child victim and b) an act of child sex abuse is not CSAM.

When I was a content moderator for a large social website there was often actual images of children being sexually abused that needed to be reported to the authorities. Our queue for those reports included THOUSANDS of “loli/shota” art that delayed us getting to the real harm for days at a time.

No matter how gross the art is, it’s not CSAM. I know it’s vile. I know your want everyone to know how gross the person who made it is. But when you intentionally mix up these terms you harm actual children by diverting attention and resources away from material that exploits them.
