This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

For what it’s worth, this pastor told me this summer that he was a supporter of Jacob Frey. He is therefore far to the *right* of most people in my neighborhood.

Perhaps this is true. I think it's that Dem leadership is mostly fine with what ICE is doing and they are counting on their voters being mostly OK with it too if they regain power.

To add to this, almost all of the U.S.’s problems are linked to its hatred of Black people and that it hates Black people more than it loves anyone else. Our laws and policies are largely based on making sure Black people (and sometimes other groups) don’t benefit even at the expense of others.

All this to say: find out how people doing very legal shit have been criminalized in the past. Be aware of how our phones and recording devices can unwittingly contribute to this. A lot of good businesses are closing on Friday to participate in the ICE Out General Strike. But make sure to support these places on the other days. A lost Friday is a tough thing for a restaurant or bar. Also use this as a barometer for the types of businesses you want to support.

These are real sacrifices in the context that the ICE occupation is already devastating businesses of many different kinds—immigrant businesses the most by far, but others, too. It is a sign of this movement’s strength and unbelievably broad appeal and, in fact, participation.
