I love the meaningfully traditional names of modern cities, such as Chicago which refers to the wild garlic that used to grow there, Paris after the ancient tribe that once lived there, and Dublin which is what the rent does every year

This. I grew up in a very socially conservative area and our local bus driver (it's a place everyone knows the bus driver) came out and began to transition. She got some abuse. In solidarity... all the farmers road the bus in drag to show they supported her right to live as she wished

Just a little post to say that funds are as always, a bit short, so if anyone is looking for any editing or writing work, please do get in touch. I am currently, like an idiot, doing a big edit for free that I would normally charge 4+ figures for, and kicking myself 🫠

Got a free trial of this but I don't think I could ever buy it because the name is so contradictory. "Liquid IV" Real IV fluids are liquid. This is not. It's a powder. Real IV fluids are given intravenously. This is not. It's taken orally. "Neither liquid nor IV"

Tesco is extending its Kids Eat Free scheme to 7 days a week over the summer, where children get a free meal with an adult purchase, but honestly, this detail about how small the adult purchase can be broke my heart.

The reason the royals aren’t moving back in is actually to improve public access and usage of Buckingham. If they aren’t living there, it’s much easier to have regular public access and events. And it is the most globally famous royal residence. Tourism is a major export of the Britain.

British politicians really started treating PM like a semester abroad. They're gonna go away and learn about the culture of leadership and then come back with a weird prime minister accent even though they weren't gone that long

It's the 10th anniversary of the dumbest moment in modern British history so let's celebrate some of the idiots who made it happen. First up ... Jacob Rees-Mogg and his promise of cheap food and wine... In fact food prices have increased some 12% as a direct result of Brexit (LSE) 1/5

Loads of advice about keeping your windows open at night/during the cooler parts of the day and zero advice about what to do if the robin flies in while you're still in bed and yells at you that the bird feeder is empty. Good morning!

not the main problem with today's book landscape, but do you think we could find a way to bring back long-running fantasy series whose authors have not even begun to think about the possibility of resolving their psychosexual issues so their books end up reshaping queer teens' minds permanently
