Toddler parent here. One of the things we're told is that you need to decide to up front if you're going to cave, and if you are to just cave right away. Letting your toddler bully you into what they wanted all along sends the wrong message.

The was a Republican shutdown because the GOP wouldn't negotiate — and Dems made that about their unwillingness to negotiate on extending the ACA subsidies. If Dems vote for this, the answer to the "why did you do it for the past 40 days?" question becomes very difficult to answer.

I told my Senators that the message Senate Dems are sending is that if we vote for Democrats resoundingly in an election, they’ll promptly fold. Is this what they want us to take from this?

So Democrats get: 1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays 2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail 3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

I too have issues with phone calls, even voicemails, and I might have flubbed a word or two reading from my pre-written script, yet I have lived to tell the tale. If you are able and feeling feisty enough to overcome any barriers you have, this is a good phone call to make.

If a budget deal goes through without restoring Medicaid & ACA subsidies, they will never be restored. That's a death sentence for millions of Americans but also to the entire republic and economy: Health care is a for-profit business generating TREMENDOUS economic activity & will grind to a halt.
