Forgotten platformer mascot and one-time political party: Alfred Chicken. I'd completely forgotten about this, but the product manager for the Amiga version ran as a candidate for a Dorset by-election in 1993 as promotion for the game as the Alfred Chicken Party.

If you wonder why the "Quiet Posters" feed doesn't work for you anymore, it is because the
@why.bsky.team
subscribed to an anti-anti-ai block list, rendering it useless for over 300 000 users. Good job bsky team!!

The extent to which social media platforms made the experience demonstrably worse over the period in question is a truly fascinating phenomenon. Only some of it was the Musk fash madness. Lots of it was just financial decisions dominating UX considerations.

Here is an insane piece of lore inside SQLite's source code I am researching VACUUM and I was studying their code. In VACUUM, SQLite creates a temp file prefixed with `etilqs_` Here is why:

Today's lunchtime NHK watch was a documentary on the history of gyoza, which made me hungry but also surprised me: I'd assumed gyoza came to Japan from China (as jiaozi) a thousand or so years ago, but they only they've only been around for about 70 years.

EA3 is one of three offshore wind farms where turbines are being erected, totalling 4 GW of sovereign power generation. We're building the wind power equivalent of a Hinkley Point C or Sizewell C nuclear power station under every two years. Hinkley Point C is expected to take 14 years to build.

The issue with many "cozy" games is they're so vibes-focused, they lose sight of the CONTENT of the media they're emulating. Yes, "The Wind in the Willows" involves sitting around drinking tea, but it also includes such heartwarming episodes as "Mr. Toad steals a car" and "Rat and Mole meet God".

It’s absolutely incredible that one of the largest Japanese-run Go servers, which has been running since 1992, is still accessed entirely via Telnet. And while most players use GUI clients that use Telnet under the hood, you can still connect manually and get ASCII graphics streamed to you
