I once tweeted this "Aha! GOTCHA! Just spotted Wally in one of the crowd scenes in Émile Zola's ‘Germinal'.", which led to people spotting a series of appearances of Wally in various books. Wonderfully, author Matt Blakstad was on the final draft of a book, which he amended to include Wally.

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet. After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

Folks in the Raleigh area: IS THIS YOUR VERY SWEET CAT? We think he's around 6mo old and he is simply too well behaved, socialized/friendly, and in too good condition to not have been taken care of by people. Found in the southeast area, near Dutchman Creek. We're getting him checked for a chip!

Sting like a ...not a bee. This is a Four-spotted Velvet Ant. Yeah, but it's not an ant either. Velvet Ants are actually solitary wasps. They are supposed to have one of the most painful stings in Florida. I have seen the more common all orange Velvet Ants, but not these.
