Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

A long time ago, a friend opined to me "you really have to have nothing whatsoever in your own life to be proud of, to have to resort to being proud of where you were born". The phrase has never left me since, nor been disproven.

based on how often the naughty teens of major cities throw the rentable scooters directly into the river i've formed a theory that the many iron age swords and cauldrons found in lakes around europe that we've previously assumed were ceremonial and sacrificial in nature were in fact thrown by teens

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

The World Bank’s latest data shows a quiet global triumph: 93% of people aged 15 to 24 can now read and write. In many regions youth literacy has reached or neared universal levels, marking one of the most successful, least reported stories in development.

Random question but how well can you see underwater without goggles? Films always show people actually finding stuff underwater. I’d always assumed vision was low and they were using creative licence but it’s occurred to me that I’m horribly short sighted and that may be a factor…

Had to go out in the car this evening. Lightning but no thunder, and rain so heavy I only knew where the road was thanks to the lights of the car in front and the catseyes. Crawled along and would have pulled over if I could see the side of the road enough to know I could. 0/10 do not recommend.

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering

TIL that for some people with irreparably damaged corneas, you can pull one of their teeth, drill a hole in it, install an artificial lens, sew it into their cheek (so tissue attaches), then pull it out and stick it in their damaged eye, and ... it works fine!?!

Kiddo watched K-Pop Demon Hunters the other day and loved it. And it’s good but it didn’t make sense to me until I realised; there’s very little plot, no explanations for stuff, and everyone constantly breaks into song. It’s an opera.
