BREAKING: Cascade PBS, which operates the website Crosscut, is laying off 19 people, reportedly including its entire news staff. In an email to staff, CEO Rob Dunlop blamed federal cuts, saying the nonprofit is "winding down our longform, written journalism."

It is a common and (IMO) misguided critique that grant review panels discourage innovative ideas. What trips up more grants than anything (but especially "innovative" ones) is lack of feasibility. 1/4

My impression is that papers in psychology often seem to assume all variables are gaussian and well described by mean/SD as summary stats. Having actually looked at a lot of data distributions in psych has made me a proponent of Tukey’s `fivenumber()` summary statistics.

I have to keep this deliberately vague, but this is a total disaster for academic research. And imposing it so suddenly is just cruel. I’ve got friends scrambling to get back to the US before midnight tonight. Do you know how hard that is to do on 36 hours of notice?

If you have to spend a lot of time checking the accuracy, because ChatGPT makes too many errors, then is it really worth having it play a role in your writing process? Imma gonna go with no.

I'm curious about looking at non-linear relations between symptoms and impairment... Anyone have a good lead on recommendations for regression discontinuity or spline regression? There seem to be a *lot* of methods, but they're not commonly used in my sphere of psychology... Thanks!

We send lots of our Clinical Psychology PhDs and PhDs students to the VAs. They provide high quality, evidence based care for veterans, and are a stellar example of how to do healthcare right in our country. It's a shame what is happening to VAs.

A significant barrier to widespread adoption of registered reports is when editors and reviewers treat a Stage 2 RR as if it were a brand new paper. What are authors supposed to do with that? Is it our job to educate editors and reviewers about this format at all stages?

Cat presents a really empathetic view of how people come to develop anti-vaxx views, especially when they're in a medical system that treats them with disdain AND doesn't seem to actually help them.

Speaking outside the academics here, so what do I know. But I honestly think a lot of unexamined issues here come from the fact that people are not willing to face what an enormous completely self-sustaining ecosystem, pseudoscience has become. They CAN and WILL replicate themselves.

If we’re going to rely as a city on public transportation to get our kids to school, as many cities do, we need to build routes and headways with schools in mind, not just downtown commuters.

The thing about living in a human society is you either decide that everyone (except those for whom it would be medically dangerous) has to take VACCINES into their bodies or everyone (with no exceptions at all) has to take VIRULENT PATHOGENS in from those around them and, look, the first is better.

Emory University just closed all our DEI offices and programs. This is egregious.

My kid recently biked 32 miles over two days on a gravel path up and down a mountain. Kids can handle biking around the neighborhood, it's adults in cars I don't trust. Our street is fine until Google Maps senses a minor backup and sends a flood of people speeding down it to maybe save 10 seconds.
