I promoted Miracle on 34th St. in Tokyo in 1994, and it was SO much fun. I remember turning on the TV and seeing a Christmas special with Goofy, a girl in a Bo Peep dress, and a cursed witch’s broom. I had no idea what was going on, and I don’t think they did, either.

Mark Cuban may well have once been a well meaning person, I have no idea, but the simple fact is that being a billionaire makes you stupid and evil. There is no avoiding this. That amount of money empties out your head and soul. The only cure is to not be a billionaire anymore.

Of all the post-Trump reforms this is by far the least likely to happen, because politicians across the spectrum would reject it outright because giving out ambassadorships to cronies & big donors is their god given right god damn it. Only thing less likely to pass would be killing Citizens United.

If you get an email with links to a legit organization, or that name-drops a legit book club... just go to the website or the org or club, and email the organizers from the contact page, to make sure this person is actually one of their leaders for real.

Just a heads up: the "I run a book club/reader org and we can promote your book" scam seems to have leveled up again. I've gotten a few lately where the scammer represents themself as being part of a longstanding community/org that actually *does* exist and *is* legit. They just aren't part of it.

The cognitive & emotional toll from staying in contact with abusive family can be both significant and difficult to recognize. There's a kind of social contract that abusive parents have violated. You owe them nothing. Nothing. Christmas–or any other holiday–doesn't change that.
