are texans even mad that their state lawmakers can just gerrymander their congressional map without it going to the voters? californians get to vote on their proposed map in november. missouri voters get the final say on their map in a veto referendum. texas is just like...shrug.

last night was a bleak one for TX legislature history. dan patrick literally denied senate democrats the ability to filibuster redistricting, even though rules allow it. roland gutierrez asked what precedent there was for this. patrick didn't even bother to answer. that's how the map passed.

watching the TX senate final debate on the redistricting map (after watching many hours of house & senate debates) i cannot stress enough how insane it feels that republicans claim to know nothing about how the map was drawn but also won't bring the map drawer to the capitol to answer any questions
