I know I am a broken record on this, but the Treasury are doing budget predictions with c.200k net immigration, Health are flagging shortages already, and the Home Office are still pursuing policy changes to reduce net immigration. This is the consequence of having a checked out Prime Minister

The current BBC cuts like all the others (universities, British Council...) are an admission of failure by Starmer and Reeves. The fabric of the country is collapsing and they have no answers. No, rather it's as if they have no questions.

Fundamentally, the reforms are bad policy: they leave people in limbo, they make retroactive changes to people's status, and they hurt the economy. Crucially, they are also bad politics, as they go significantly further than voters want, and Labour voters, rightly, think they're cruel.

re Labour leadership - there's three years to the next general election, and the "controllable" that will have the biggest impact on Labour's fortunes will be how well (or badly) they do at running the country. So just go for the person you think will be best at running the country for three years.

What you've got here is the reflex of people who assume that having the "right" politics means they are "good" people So anyone accusing them of, say, selecting anti-Semitic candidates is challenging their self-image as good people. And thus you get this reflex - "the accusers are to blame"
