I think it's also due to Londoncentric TV and film production. Americans reaching for "posh" English will do RP, for "working class" English it's cockney. Northern, Midlands, West Country etc doesn't seem to register. They know there's a Scottish accent but almost none can do it.

Junction system does seem a little similar to Materia in that it blurs the lines between party members, but it seems like it’s less faff to theme specific characters and being able to interchange stuff with people outside of your party is a godsend
