A Thought: How much of sluggish growth can be attributed to the streaming economy? Can't be great that for many people 2-3% of their income now goes to YouTube, Spotify, Patreon, Netflix, etc, ways of spending money that I can't imagine have much of a productivity multiplier?

Society's success at defining racism as a terrible ill, in large part by highlighting its most extreme forms as an example of where such thinking leads, has also led to a significant number of people willing to accept *only* the most extreme forms as racist.

reminds me of Tom Lehrer's send-up of folk singers: "Remember the war against Franco? That's the kind where each of us belongs. Though he may have won all the battles, We had all the good songs!"

The Boring Fund will be open for applications in November. If your small UK charity needs (up to) ยฃ200 to cover something boring like insurance or web hosting, take a look. They welcome donations too.

Point for Sheffield over Liverpool: the Supertram announcement voice has a Sheffield accent, but the Merseyrail one is not Scouse.

Superb. I, a 30 year old man, have developed Freshers Flu. Both quite poorly and lacking dignity.

Would be good news exclusively for the Sound Transit employees whomst I heard discussing (less than two years before the World Cup!) how they had no plans for how to handle the crowds.

So I've been thinking about the BC Liberals and if their fate could be replicated for the Tories (the Kemi Falcon scenario, if you will). While it is a possibility, it is also less likely for reasons I'll try and articulate:

It makes so much sense to build SkyTrain across Lions Gate and out to Horseshoe Bay. Massively decongest downtown, boost Stanley Park tourism, and cut journey times to ferries by a ton. But first ye must slay the monsters three - West Van NIMBYs, Park Royal mall, and Ironworkers Bridge capacity.

Last week, a woman sidled up to Dad (a white American) at the bus stop after seeing some black men and said "soon this whole town will be immigrants". She was taken aback when he firmly pointed out they were more British than he was, and asked what made her assume he was okay, but they weren't.

Feeling melancholy about Twitter. Grateful so many of my regulars jumped ship here, but people whose daily life I once followed have effectively stopped existing. Their life continues, somewhere, while the memories I have are a finite, fading echo of who they were at a point in time.

One day someone will write a learned work on how many of Britain's right-wing cranks emerge from the Liberal Party. Maybe their attraction for "I'm not like other girls" types.
