Ugh this made me queasy. I hate it. I don't want to look at faces. I don't want to make videos.

Tankies are just the latest manifestation of Everyone Is Twelve theory. No content, just oppositional defiance. If everyone suddenly became a Stalinist, they'd hate not being shockingly outrรฉ any more and jump to being Nazis.

The uncomfortable truth (including for me, who makes a living doing it) is that the future communications landscape is likely to be vastly fragmented, sector-specific and require building trust with a lot of microcommunities. I'm not sure the capital or the infrastructure is there to do it properly.

Proposal for regulating social media in a way that would be pro-social and relatively straightforward: Cap the amount of time a user can spend on any given platform. Say, two hours a day? Have some carve outs if your job genuinely depends on you being there, but otherwise, Log Off.

A real spicy take of mine is that attitudes to alcohol are one of the few areas where the US has MUCH stronger class boundaries than the UK. This is due to the absence of an exact analogue to The Pub.

The true pre-mixed drinking scandal is how the Strong Zero they sell in Tesco is only like two-thirds as strong as the real thing and they only sell little cans.

I have to say, I do not love the Instagram comic trend of doing 20 panels and including not a single joke, just you earnestly endorsing a nice sentiment.

Seen a few people attempting to get clout by doomposting about how Tisza are right wing and: yes we know, but they're not trying to turn Hungary into a dictatorship, so, you know, give it a rest for a bit?

Not an economist but I think there's two non-economic things going on with how people feel about the economy. 1) enormous inflation of expectations. 2) the algorithm rewards pessimism and punishes optimism. A lot makes sense when you realise millions of people are using dopamine as currency.

Yeah, this is one of many things that makes me feel like a weird alien because I see the kind of lifestyle Influencer Culture tries to make us want and not only think "wow you can hire a Ferrari by the hour now" but also "this lifestyle looks horrible even if it weren't fake"

30% of UK adults don't drive. The weird idea that if you don't drive your view is illegitimate really needs to die. It's their tax you'll be using to subsidise everyone else!

More than 500 organizations in B.C. are now certified living wage employers, guaranteeing over 22,000 workers and contracted staff wages that actually match the cost of living in their communities. That number, years in the making, is growing faster than ever.

My psychological theory of politics strikes again! The Tories have high self-esteem and low esteem for others, so they struggle to recognise genuine unpopularity. Labour have low-self esteem and high esteem for others, so even with a huge majority they assume their opponents are all-powerful.

See I love taking long trains, but I have long realised that my idea of fun (driving across Canada in winter, travelling from the north to the south of Japan, visiting the only train station in Idaho just to see what was there) sounds to most people like a cry for help.

Set up my PS3 that I found in mum's loft. Still has the profile from the previous owner, who went by "Dagger" and seems to have filled it with pirated copies of movies from 2011. Also contains the disc from my two-girlfriends-ago ex's copy of Alice: Madness Returns. I doubt she'll get it back.
