Today's teatime tunes: delayed tonight because I'm having a lovely time with a lovely person. One clip and one tune from the soundtrack of this 1968 exploito movie, the band were from Long Island, NY

Always will have a soft spot for this film directed by the great Ken Loach & the novel written by Nell Dunn, for the reasons below, and equally for their authenticity. I re-read & re-watched a couple of months ago. They still stand the test of time six decades on.

Starmer's new digital ID scheme will be really unfair on some people. Particularly the poor bastard that ends up stealing mine.

The Who, on Observer magazine covers from March 1966 & March 1972. The photos by Colin Jones & then Tony McGrath give a sense of how fast pop culture moved in the period. (In the second pic, Entwhistle can be seen trying to restrain Moon from continuing an unprompted attack on McGrath.)

Today's teatime tunes: from Milwaukee, and not to be confused with The Shaggs, this anti-drug song was apparently written after a very heavy bad trip. Garage psych genius

My dad would never let us have Chinese or Indian takeaway because 'it's cat and dogs. They go out at night and catch them'. That was in the 70s and now in 2025 we're back to this fucking shite. Jesus.

The medieval mind imagined dragons lurking anywhere unfamiliar - even the Alps - and in a 16th century work on Africa, the beautiful engravings show the locals hunting elephants, crocodiles etc and also Romans having a crack at a dragon (I guess in North Africa)
