and maybe aging is always a little bit like this. maybe we all wind up looking around, disoriented, at the world we wind up occupying. its interesting i guess. but im going to keep believing this is worse

one unexpected aspect of this: i feel good about that. im glad this shit is unacceptable to me. im glad shame and social behavior and adherence to rules were drilled into me. i feel bad for those coming up in this wilderness. i hope for my kids' sakes that there's a pathway out to something better

as this goes on while i grow older, i am very much feeling like a creature of another time. obviously things have always been more or less this way my entire life but as the last vestiges of truth, shared obligations, a loose moral framework get sheared away, i feel increasingly out of place
