The good news is that if the rapture happens late enough you may still have time to binge all three seasons of The Leftovers before it happens

The people who *make this tech* can't get it to work in a simple demo, and their magical thinking about it has convinced them that they didn't need to do the most basic level of preparation for their demonstration. So it is, in fact, an excellent demonstration of what genAI will do for society.

Speaking to Redford's sense of grace: QUIZ SHOW is streaming free on Hoopla, and it's one of the finest films about class and morality ever made in America. You should watch it.

Wholeheartedly agree. Sepinwall has been my go to TV critic for years, guiding me to the small islands of TV greatness in a vast sea of “content”. Everyone should be reading him.

The Sting is one of my all-time favorite films and Robert Redford was a fantastic actor and director (Quiz Show is another favorite of mine). Will be greatly missed.

If I were editing a column about Charlie Kirk’s political genius, I would tell the writer he needed to quote Kirk’s actual political beliefs. If the writer responded that doing so would weaken or distract from his argument, it’d be a pretty good sign that the column was not ready for prime time.

Am sure that at this moment there's a right wing media arms race to try and dig up any shred of evidence that Kirk's shooter was trans or an immigrant.

You ever think about how nazis were actually pretty solid at identifying art that did vs didn't align with their ideology, i.e. they loved Wagner but hated the Surrealists But modern nazis are like "WATCH MY VIDEO ESSAY ON WHY ROBOCOP PROVES WE SHOULD GIVE CHATGPT A GUN"

What can they actually say? That adults are doing something to protect them? Talk should start with “It’s time you learned the bleak truth about congressional cowardice and public complacency…”

Very much agree with this and also feel that businesses/industry have followed a similar path in ensuring workers never experience the small bit of power, flexibility and choice they gained during the pandemic.

Green Dildo Coin. An amount spent on masked thugs and themed concentration camps that could house and feed every homeless person in America. Cage fights on a paved-over White House lawn. It really all boils down to losers who want to replace our society with a different one that just fucking sucks.

This is the public health equivalent of shuttering DARPA work on networked computers at the inception of the internet: "data show that this 'internet' is an ineffective method of quality communication, and we're shifting funding toward safer, more reliable tools such as chalkboards, and postcards."
