This terrible news for female directors, the wider industry and for female stories and representation on screen AND behind the scenes. Women and girls make up 51% of the world population and yet arenāt given the same equivalence within the film/TV industry. Frankly, thatās archaic.

we did it! a perfectly structured democracy. it's got checks, it's got balances. this thing is made to last. there's only one weakness: bad guys. if somehow some bad guys who don't care about decorum got elected they could basically just tip the whole thing over. luckily such men are unelectable

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you donāt squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

I've noticed that among movie lovers here, lately there's a renewed appreciation of the craft and polish of '80s/'90s studio movies--their pleasure and polish, their entertainment value. Rob Reiner's early filmography is such a good way to understand that. He knew how to deliver. A true craftsman. >

All films that were able to be made because of the production company Reiner co-founded in order to give talented filmmakers creative freedom.

Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didnāt have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.

Reiner as both a political and cultural figure is a grand lesson in how art matters. Itās not just the āart filmsā that matter, itās the fun stuff too, the silly stuff, the seemingly inconsequential. It all matters because we matter, itās all that deep because so are we.
