It’s profoundly worrying that so many politicians and journalists, continue to use this platform which is increasingly a space for hate speech and far right propaganda. It’s having a serious impact on the state of national discourse. Government should at the very least make X abide by the law.

This seems like a positive step, and something the U.K. should be thinking about doing too.

2/2 There can be no public trust in BBC impartiality while it is still in the form engineered by the last Tory government to wage ‘anti-woke’ culture war. Talking points about “illegal” immigration drawn from the right wing press will drive its news agenda until it becomes more impartial again.

This is absolutely appalling. This is a top broadcaster on a major channel essentially asking if it’s “realist” to object to people on the basis of their skin colour.

She wasn’t talking about immigration. She said it makes her angry to see black and Asian faces on adverts. This should not be difficult for a Conservative minister to condemn. The party has really jumped the shark.

Found out about this one from the Labour press release condemning it, and it was a real trip to learn that this wasn’t “a Labour staffer with a tape recorder at a private event” story but a “she just said it on national TV” story.

This is so full of hedging and avoidance that I had to read it several times. If a Labour government can’t say straightforwardly that it disagrees with the arbitrary deportation of people with the legal right to be here, then truly what is the point of it.

I’m inclined to agree with this. It’s disturbing to see how explicit racism is becoming more acceptable, and the extent to which it is going unchallenged. I don’t know if it’s down to an increasingly fragmented media landscape, inertia of government, or what, but it is frightening.

I find it mind boggling that our entire political class seems to be ignoring this. Musk is the owner of a major media platform that - as we’ve seen - can shape media and political discourse. And the official response seems to be head in the sand.

Absolutely !!!insane!!! to me that the UK government, lobby and newspapers litigate at length every minor infraction by the BBC, rival newspapers, or what some random columnist has posted. But all of them just carry on not even commenting about this media owner. He’s not hiding, he’s telling you!

It's physically unsafe for people like me to go into the centre of our home city this Saturday on account of the colour of our skin. Most politicians are either failing to stand up to this or actively contributing to the situation. We don't owe any of those politicians our votes. Not one of them.
