I recently saw a post saying, "Everything used to be 20 dollars and now that I finally have 20 dollars, everything is now 200 dollars." And for that reason I don't think I'll ever shame anyone asking for financial help for any reason because shit's been so fucked lately.

Saying we should all go back to physical media I think misses the point. I actually *like* buying games and movies digitally for a bunch of reasons. What we need is better consumer protections so the things we do buy digitally are actually owned and companies cant delete/revoke access!

Like many things in life - you don’t HAVE to engage in it! But it does mean you have to work that much harder to replace the gap it leaves. My own decision to largely avoid social media engagement except on my terms is a tradeoff meant to keep my mental health intact. To me, it’s worth that effort.

The death of physical media seems like a small thing practically but in essence it represents the total dissolution of games as “objects of art” and instead reduces them purely to “intellectual property”. It’s a slow disaster but if you care about games as an art form it IS a disaster.

0% okay with this. It has already been a known (and observed) practice for over a decade that digital copies of games can be revoked at the company’s whim. We literally JUST saw Sony remove over 500 movies from the accounts of people who already purchased them, w/ no recourse. Pure profit chasing.
