i think to bluntly ask the quesiton 'WHY would anyone want to read this? why would i want to MAKE this? WHAT IS THE GIFT?' can be arresting. but it only triggers imposter syndrome if you conclude 'i must have no gift then'. WE ALL HAVE A GIFT TO GIVE. dont stop at 'oh i have no gift,' GO FIND IT

good practical reflection for artists who feel like whatever theyre making just isnt working is the sit down and VERY HONESTLY ask yourself: what is the gift here? it can be a lot of things. what am i giving to myself? to the world? what feeling? what expression? art that resonates is art that GIVES

i have such good ideas for sequals to both CAMP DAMSACUS and BURY YOUR GAYS but not enough time in the day. i enjoy writing original new stories from the same world a little better (as readers know all of my horror novels cross over in various ways) so direct sequels unlikely but DANG fun ideas

so exciting when working on a novel and you arrive at the images that made you want to write it. my books have a lot of set pieces and when working through a draft theres a timing thing where i think 'ok WHERE is the next big moment that only YOU can make?' then BANG it kicks the door open. SO GOOD
