I’m still oscillating between being pissed that Yoshida was given such a crappy conclusion that did nothing for (worse than nothing actually, actively reduced) his character and wondering exactly what else Fujimoto is going to do with him because it pretty clearly isn’t the End end of him

also like… Yoshida had to believe in the efficacy of this plan enough to (seemingly) be willing to die for it and further emotionally wound denji. This is the guy that came up with a plan to escape an inescapable primal devil realm and so far, on the face of it,

I have to believe that there’s some deception in this plan because 1. It really seems to contradict Death’s fundamental goal of avoiding weaponization and is placing an enormous amount of trust in War to not use Pochita’s weapon to erase her in Hell (which would be possible by these terms)

Real Chainsaw Man theory..last time Denji had to make a choice - child Denji said Goodbye to Pochita & went into the alley. And now child Denji finds Asa in the alley. Alleys represent places you keep the discarded, the unwanted. I think Asa has been chasing an exit. Denji will help her #chainsawman

what this story does /perfectly/ is maintaining the balance between understanding that what these two do is unjustifiable, horrific and inhumane and creating a compelling love story between them that is emotionally nuanced and interesting enough to want to see them continue to commit these crimes

severance taught me how this could be done and maintain respect for both of them as independently emotional and moral beings my take on it is that Asa the human did exist and lived as she did in her memories, but the Asa we’ve been following is Yoru’s projection of who she believes Asa would be,

Man Yoru's perception-based powers are so ridicuolously powerful, especially now that she's learn to weaponize subjectivity like Asa. Since she views Pochita as her ultimate foe, she can just declare that the fight is for the entire world, and it works.

Hajime yells at Tomoaki not to touch him when he’s in a weakened and vulnerable state and honestly, actually, my heart is breaking thinking about that with remembering that Hajime was institutionalized as a child and surely made to enter this state during that time.

apparently hajime’s body is cold (although that could be just because of his current state) and without a pulse (which seems to be normal), but he’s still breathing. my “hajime’s species are created through one of them feeding on someone who’s pregnant” theory going CRAZY rn

I am so glad that I pinned Hajime as a reflection of and inspired by Makima from the very beginning because that read is becoming so rewarding. I read him as a Makima that truly does love his target of control, but still does not know /how/ to love in the way that she also doesn’t.

I love when you see fujimoto’s influence in manga, especially from people who once worked with him. He really did change the medium and the ways stories are told, didn’t he.

it always strikes me how utterly irredeemable Yoru is. there is absolutely nothing good or sympathetic within her; she is nothing but petty, stupid, cruel and senseless impulses that occasionally organize themselves into causing atrocities.

I doubt we’re going to see much of Yoru and Pochita’s fight because 1, we’ve already seen them battle and 2. does it matter, really? this is a pissing match for yoru’s ego. what actually matters is where emotionally this is going to take the characters of her victims.

👀 gotta say…. many telling me I need to expect and accept anticlimactic endings for the characters and story seem real resistant to Yoru having an anticlimactic ending when she is perhaps the character most perfectly set up for one

The consistent imagery of him having his back to the light is really interesting, if this light- especially when paired with The Alley- is supposed to represent death, passing on, moving on. It touches him but never fully engulfs him, he’s stuck in between it and earthly shadows.

how tomoaki can watch one of his patients die in front of him after he willingly sacrificed them and then step right back into playing the role of a supportive, kind counselor as if it never happened is actually far scarier than anything hajime does

I’ve been corrected about what happened here- Yoshida was the one thrown out the window- and now it makes even less sense. Like I know Fujimoto plays fast and loose with physics but with how weird and staged-feeling everything else is about this I can’t help but feel it’s intentionally illogical.

Ok yeah it is really weird that Denji was blown out the window/into the next room by the force of the explosion and sustained heavy damage to his skin and clothes but Yoshida has no visible explosion damage anywhere on him and seems to have fallen exactly where he was standing

Yeah Yoshida being stuck in a state of undeath, not living but not experiencing the true rest and nonexistence of death, actually fits his story and character a lot better than just dying “normally”
