I've seen folks read CSM and immediately call Makima out as a devil, but second-guess themselves because it's 'too obvious.' Is it so obvious that everyone already knows and nobody comments on it? Is it a twist? Is it a red herring? The reader's own cognitive dissonance is a mirror of Denji's.

I think I gotta adopt the headcanon that Denji knew Makima was a devil all along. I think he willfully ignored it or cognitive-dissonanced himself out of it or simply didn't care because he's fine being close with devils, it makes an even stronger strong thru-line for his character into part 2.
