The Embankment cycleway (CS3) in London was purposefully built to be wider than was usual in order to future proof it. Some said it would hardly be used. Now there’s a decent case for widening it further. Induced demand is real.

Great to see the cycle route option on TfL Go now shows users what percentage of their journey will be on a Cycleway, and where those sections are located. We’ve also integrated elevation data to be able to show how and where a route climbs and descends.

I really cannot overstate how fantastic biking in the AM is for my small person. After the “get dressed” and “eat your breakfast” and “OMG put your shoes ON” struggles she gets to hop on her bike, take control, and move her body. She walks into the classroom feeling like a million bucks.

We know how to save lives and make our city safer for everyone, especially children, older and disabled people, to walk, cycle and catch the bus. Rolling out 20mph speed limits everywhere people are using pavements and need to cross the road makes sense.

Paris built it and they came. Remove the road danger and lots more will cycle. Even the UK sort of proved this during COVID when the roads were very quiet and lots more cycled. The UK needs to stop being timid and just chuck money and effort at active travel.
