I generally treat land acknowledgements like I do corporate DEI trainings: I may inwardly roll my eyes on occasion, but I'm instantly suspicious of people who become outwardly aggrieved by them. For that reason alone I think they actually provide some value.

collective memory is something you have to work at constantly, and the persistent drumbeat of land acknowledgements is an extremely valuable way to produce widespread consciousness of basic material fact of dispossession and genocide

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

Nuzzi's fawning coverage of the sociopathic conspiracy crank she was having an affair with aided his rise to political power, which he is using to perpetrate the worst intentional public health catastrophe of our unnecessarily shortened lifetimes, and THAT is the STORY.

My most woke opinion is that if a white person hears another white person do a racism they have a moral obligation to call it out. This is the part of wokeness conservatives hate- the one where they can no longer feel safe being racist in all-white spaces.

It’s interesting, my most actually radical position is probably prison abolition but I don’t think I’d call that the “wokest” position. That would probably be something like “Performative anti-racism and anti-sexism actually do serve an important norm setting function in society.”

6/To those who call my position political correctness, being woke, an example of cancel culture, I say the following. A profession's decisions on how to allocate opportunities has dimensions that define its professional ethos and culture. There are spillover effects that matter.

my wokest opinion is that land acknowledgements are fine. people knowing a little bit about the land you're on, even if one isn't invested in a land back project, is not particularly worse than the status quo, even if one comes by this info in a way that is somewhat cringe and forced

Every decade, we hear "the kids can't read or write!" Interventions that don't work are proposed. Those that do work are ignored: reducing class sizes, making kids & families feel safe at school and welcome, becoming a community resource. When their expensive reform fails, they yell at us again.

We could solve like half the problems in education with smaller class sizes (like 15 instead of 30 kids crushed in a room). Including that it would be easier to find teachers b/c they wouldn’t get so burnt out.

Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

I think my "most woke" opinion is that I don't want "free" stuff. I want my taxes to pay for things that better society. Universal childcare, universal basic income, no means testing, universal (and accessible) Pre-K to 16 education (college/trade school). Not "free" I've paid for it.

We are a social species, and we have always prevailed through cooperation. Caring for our sick. Raising children we didn't sire or birth because they were part of our village or extended family. We are not breeders and predators, we are communicators and survivors. We evolved to UNITE.

"my least woke opinion is---" That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania. Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

The pickup truck already reached peak form, in the 90s. Anything beyond that is just inbreeding for hyper-exaggerated traits at the expense of the health of the truck. Its gross, really, the things people have done to the pickup truck.

pickup trucks for the average person should not have been allowed to advance past this. if you need anything bigger, you should have to provide some kind of documentation showing you have the license and need for special heavy machinery, otherwise you get the 1990 toyota hilux
