A fun fact about the side judge for today's Super Bowl. It's once again Eugene Hall. I wrote about himâand his connection to IRS Criminal Investigationsâfor

Meet The IRS Special Agent Earning His Stripes As An NFL Referee
During the week, Eugene Hall uses his tech savvy to chase down tax cheats, identity thieves and other fiscal frauds. And on football Sundays, he assesses penaltiesâfive and ten yards at a time.

No matter how hard people try to convince us having empathy is wrong, it is right. No matter how hard people try to convince us that diversity is a weakness, it is a strength. No matter how hard people try to convince us that love is limited, it is unlimited.

This is probably part of why everyone on bluesky is 38 years old: 38 year olds are basically the only people who consider it totally normal to flee a sinking ship and then just casually resume the conversation on the tropical island they end up on. They've outlived dozens of ships.

The IRS was a simple test for DOGE: was it really interested in efficiency and state capacity? If so, you support the tax enforcement, the biggest ROI in govt. Or did it want to minimize parts of the state that bothered billionaires? We have our answer.

The Economist has published a deeply-researched story about car bloat -- and it's very, very damning. "For every life that the heaviest 1% of SUVs and trucks save, there are more than a dozen lives lost in other vehicles." Well worth your time:

A nation is definitely functioning properly when we drill 5 year-olds for active shooter scenarios and then they do exactly what they're supposed to do while the cops seemingly have no training and fuck up royally -- after we arrange our gun laws to make all of this necessary. Cool country!
