Good thread. I would add that even with these recommendations, kids under 4 not covered by VFC can still get measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) vaccines. The recommendation is now MMR+V (2 shots) instead of MMRV (1 shot). Pointless, annoying change but vaccines still here (for now).

Not for nothing, Tylenol has long been the *only* pain medicine thought of as "safe" for pregnant people. Tylenol is what they offered me for procedures that would usually be managed with anesthesia and opiates. This is a politics that devalues women, & their pain, trafficking in harm.

I personally don’t find a Buckley stamp any more offensive than a Nancy Reagan stamp (which is to say I find both grossly offensive). The utility of these stamps is their existence is great proof you can say the most odious things in politics and still be honored if you use “polite” language.

I also worry about how this advice may get expanded (officially, or through the game of health care telephone) to become “if there is any chance, no matter how tiny or theoretical, that you could get pregnant, you should not take Tylenol at all.”

this is not to say that analyses of VAERS data can’t be useful – but those analyses need to be conducted by people with training in immunology/biostatistics/epidemiology, published in reputable publications, & have evidence besides VAERS data to support them if they’re going to guide health policy.

I can’t read the article because paywall but the important thing to remember about VAERS (the system that collects reports of side effects of vaccines in the U.S.) data is that anyone can submit anything to it. You don’t need to show that the adverse event was caused by the vaccine to file a report.
