A4: In general... that we are real, whole, entire, fully conscious people. Even if we're *very* disabled. A lot of people still seem stuck about that. Also, more and more... that what is most conspicuous about autism to you is often not what's most disabling about it to us. #AutChat

Part of the reason why parents these days know that extreme hypersensitivity is a hallmark of autism, is because earlier generations of autistic activists worked very hard to make that well-known. In the 1980s, it was not.

The whole thing about autistic lack of theory of mind has always seemed to me to miss the key point that if you are constantly aware that others think/feel differently, you are unlikely to assume you know what they are thinking/feeling.
