Don’t let the internet fool you. I was at a protest for trans kids yesterday an HOUR south of Seattle, and it was HUGE. And there was a cacophony of drivers beeping in support. I could not believe it. Because I spend too much online and figured it’s a lost cause.

Disabled people writ large are generally not consulted on stories about their disabilities, and as another commenter said, trans people are almost never consulted on stories about trans people. The norm is to run the story first, not best.

I guess it's the same reason nobody consults trans people when making policy decisions - it's more comfortable to treat every minority as being lesser, and therefore not worthy of having a voice 😒

It's incredible to me that this still isn't the norm. I don't understand why anyone who thinks they're a journalist would ever put out a story about autism without talking to Autistic people first.

When the NYT puts out a 6-episode podcast just acting concerned about children's healthcare or whatever and everybody trans clocks it as just more anti-trans bullshit, like, this is the *same* as the pseudoscience they use to relate autism and vaccines or whatever else ... it's the same bigotry.
