I endorse this podcast not just for my love of language and translation, but also for anyone who wants to improve their communication skills! As an autistic who couldn't smalltalk for beans, their episode on the topic helped me, and so much more than I could fit in a blueet Knowledge is power!

try it for yourself: the experiment is live and still collecting data at themusiclab.org/quizzes/havoc you'll find that for quite a few of the animal sounds, you have a clear-ish intuition as to which is nicer

out now in Science: @loganjames.bsky.social collected pairs of sounds in 16 species where we *know* which sound is more attractive (to that species) he played them to ppl on themusiclab.org, asking, in each pair, which was nicer. humans agreed w other animals doi.org/10.1126/science.aea1202

I'm just getting around to reading Because Internet by @gretchenmcculloch.com . It's fantastic! I fall into the "old internet person" category. I first got online in 1993 with BBS's, UseNet, MUDS, MUCKS, and IRC. I was a programmer, can tear a PC apart, and can figure out just about any software.
