Today’s autism announcement was another example of why it’s unsafe to become pregnant in the US right now. Abortion rights are restricted. People are being arrested for miscarrying. States want to create abortion “registries” Trump says pregnant people shouldn’t consume Tylenol

Tylenol doesn’t cause autism. Vaccines don’t cause autism. Taking medications doesn’t make you “less than” and you shouldn’t be expected to just “tough it out”. Also… release the Epstein files.

Also yes we’ve been talking about Kimmel, a rich white dude who’d be fine without the job, but his show employs 200 people who have struggled through five incredibly hard years. We saved 200 jobs by standing together for the guy who used to make women jump on trampolines, and that’s a win.

Today’s autism announcement was just as bad as we feared Trump blamed Tylenol & vaccines for autism They encouraged women to just “tough out” their pain They praised people who don’t “need” meds or vaccines These are eugenicist talking points & they’re devastating to the disability community:

Aspirin can be lethal to babies and young children. There’s a reason they’re giving them Tylenol. I worry that the more Trump says “don’t give your babies Tylenol!” The more we’re going to see babies succumbing to Reye’s Syndrome & other aspirin related complications.

Things pregnant people can no longer have in the US: Abortions Covid vaccines Tylenol Medical autonomy This regime seems intent on punishing and controlling women as much as humanly possible. Nothing in this autism announcement will help anyone. Much of the “advice” will hurt.

Makary saying “this marks the beginning of a very large shift in medicine”. Then proceeds to say the FDA will be putting a warning on Tylenol & sending a letter to all physicians about its risk in pregnancy. This marks a shift all right. Away from science. Away from decency. Towards eugenics.

You’re much closer to becoming disabled or homeless than you are to becoming rich and wealthy. It’s not a moral failing. It’s not something you can “try harder” your way out of. We need robust social supports & safety nets to ensure everyone is properly cared for.

Tomorrow RFK Jr and Trump plan to announce their “big news” about autism. Nothing they do is rooted in science, disability awareness or common decency. Remember to protect your digital space. Safeguard your spoons. Check on one another. Lean into the community for support

I hate that we exist in a timeline where those in power insist on debating facts as though they’re opinions. Tylenol in pregnancy doesn’t cause autism. If RFK Jr continues to claim otherwise, it’s just a way to shame mothers and vilify people with autism. He must resign.
