Today i spent a fair amount of time "backing up" the novel rough draft by taking photos of it and creating a laptop folder for them in addition to on a SD card. Prior to the trip to Salem, Oregon, for the Bookbin event tonight. Essential part of piece of mind for me lol.

The new novel, tentatively scheduled for March 2027, is in three parts, which roughly correspond physically or thematically to oystercatchers, kingfishers, and cormorants. It incorporates many details from the PNW coast. There is an irruption of migratory birds in it. Also, an eye sheds cosmic rays.

What I am doing instead of watching the devil: Rereading Mary Stewart's The Crystal Cave for the first time since I was 13. This novel made a huge impact on me as a teenager and was a big early influence. I am relieved almost to tears that, halfway through, it is as wonderful as I remember it.

I watched a couple of nominated short films with @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social and this one stood out for me. I went in knowing nothing, and decided to stay bc it is important to not turn away from things going on around us. I do not regret watching this short film.

This really is a fabulous entry in the SR book lighthouse photo contest. So clever. It won't work for the book, due to how it's layering in reality, but I admire it.

On this day in 2018, Central's disinformation film about Area X, Annihilation, was released in theaters in the US. The film included several subliminal cues / hypnotic suggestions intended to blunt investigations by non governmental agencies, while testing psych tech developed by the Southern Reach

My controversial opinion, and no disrespect, but a re-edit of 28 Years Later and The Bone Temple might reveal a more cohesive film, in a sense. 28 Years had jarring tonal shifts. Bone spent too much time in a barn trying to Clockwork Orange the devil while giving us a wonderful Sampson storyline.

Marshmallow is the kind of feel good summer camp comedy that should be shown at every summer camp out there. Life-affirming and dead to rights on the camp experience as I remember it. Sans water wings.
