Sometimes greater character interiority provides relief from exposition in works that contain complex speculative elements. You may lose needed context, but it has the effect of churning telling into showing on some level. You can then do a pass to check that enough situational signifiers remain.

This is probably the first piece of fiction, *period*, that I've read in like seven or eight years, and it was just gorgeous and enthralling. It's also my introduction to @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social's writing, and I'm grateful beyond measure that this found its way to me.
