Experiments in AI: I took a screenshot of an easy level sudoku (something that would take me 1-2 minutes) and asked GPT to solve it. It had 4 attempts after which I asked it to give me the original grid in text form in case it had transcribed it wrong. It hadn't, but claimed it had, then gave up.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

One of the easiest ways to shoot down the idea that "AI" is an expert is to show how it deals with something people know about. Younger readers may not get this as most appliances come pre-wired, but anyone 35+ can see these are chaotic fire hazards. From Mastodon, AI asked how to wire a plug:

I must be absolutely wild being someone like Vance. Constantly surrounded be yes men who proclaim your genius and the instant your horrible face appears on a big screen representatives of *literally the entire world* boo you. What does that do to a human brain? It can't be good.

Weird and almost universal revisionism today. Even at the time, it was pretty clear that Mandelson wasn't appointed *despite* his dodgy links but *because* of them. Trump's Washington is a dirty swamp. Mandelson was deemed a man able to swim in it. This wasn't a secret. Everybody said it out loud.
