Happy birthday to us! Our founders – Octavia Hill, Robert Hunter and Hardwicke Rawnsley – believed that nature, beauty and history were for everyone. On this day in 1895, they set up the National Trust and we're proud to continue their work today. Thank you to all those who support what we do.

I think next season of the Traitors, the contestants should lean hard into the unconscious bias. But instead of getting rid of all the people of colour first, like always, which never works, just chuck out all the Welsh people (and people pretending to be Welsh). Job done.

Today is Epiphany, when Western Christianity celebrates the three kings' visit to the infant Christ. Peter Bruegel the Elder's 'Adoration of the Kings' [National Gallery] is one of my favourite imaginings of that moment. It's also full of mystery. Quick Epiphany 🧵

As promised, one aspect of what I do every day this week. I also work on 'gender mainstreaming' which is basically creating better places which are more gender equal. The great thing about this is that great examples of good practice already exist in Europe so I get to be positive.

Happy New Year. In the spirit of this, I intend to spend this week posting about all the wildly various things I am doing in 2026. First, my book The Hard Way will be coming out in paperback in the spring, although perhaps not with exactly the same cover.

Here is my peace plan for Ukraine/Russia. 1. Russia gets the fuck out of Ukraine. 2. Putin goes on trial in the Hague. 3. Russia pays everyone for everything. 4. Trump gets impeached, convicted, and sent to jail. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

The worst you can accuse Panorama of doing is making a misleading edit – and I’d dispute that! – to make *a point that was true*. The programme aired without anyone seeing any issues with the edit. It was on iPlayer for a year without complaints. Donald Trump *did* incite Jan 6th.
