Another thing reporters are aware of isn't just conflict of interest but also *appearance* of a conflict of interest. Many expected her to act this way. So even if she didn't act this way purposefully, she gave her detractors enough to believe she was doing the exact thing they expected her to do.

Let's take the most charitable interpretation of Weiss here, and believe her when she says it was a call about newsworthiness. (I don't.) That still shows she's a terrible grasp of how news works. She drew attention to a good, but well-told story and Streisand effected it to the moon.

Weiss said she didn't air it said because it doesn't break new ground. Plenty of 60 Minutes segments don't break new ground. And even so, fine, that editing critique is usually incorporated in early drafts of projects, not right before they are about to air.

Just watched the whole 60 Minutes CECOT episode. It's a pretty standard segment for 60 Minutes, taking something that's been reported on in other publications and formats and telling it to a wider audience with first person, on camera accounts. It's not earth shattering, but it is newsworthy.
