Immigration advocates say if you see ICE targeting someone, knowing what to do in the moment is critical to protecting immigrants. It’s hard to know what to look for, but this guide can help you better understand how to be an effective bystander in Oregon, and your legal right to do so.

What to do if you spot ICE in your community
Amid President Trump’s immigration crackdown, local community networks are the first line of defense. Here’s what Oregon advocates say you should do if you see agents detaining someone.

some of y’all need to stop taking your frustrations with ICE out on angelita, the only immigrant on council, who is also the one who has done the most in this space and generally goes the hardest against fascists of any kind. why aren’t you lashing out at me or literally anyone else?

The actual story that isn’t here is that the socialist city councilors are getting their agenda passed because they are smarter & more disciplined than the other people on council. They understand procedural rules better and have policy aims. Dan Ryan just takes up space. Zimmerman has no politics.

Trump is an authoritarian fascist. Full stop. DHS are fascists. Full stop. You do not give them an inch. You stand up and you fight back. All those No Kings rallies with tens of thousands of people in the streets - what do we think that was for? It's not a mandate for appeasement, to be sure.

Each time a remotely progressive candidate wins office in the US, the rich declare they're going to leave town. What do they actually do? Nothing. A 2016 study found only 0.04% of millionaires move in a given year due to tax increases. Rich people talk to feel important. Please properly tax them.

Andrew Cuomo is afraid he'll lose, so his donors want you to fear me. His SuperPAC just sent out a mailer that artificially lengthened and darkened my beard. This is blatant Islamophobia—the kind of racism that explains why MAGA billionaires support his campaign.

It is explicitly more beneficial for police to let this continue. We've all seen how many officers they can assemble at a moments notice when they shoot someone and word gets out.

Also, the Prosper board has signaled that it will ignore directives to this effect from the city council which is extremely wild behavior. If I was on council, I don’t think I’d take too kindly to a city entity asserting it is above the budget process. This is even more brazen than the cops!

This is a struggle over who has control over public money in this city & it’s pretty astounding to see a supposedly public agency run a public relations campaign (full of omissions & misinformation) against the city council to protect its loan fund from from going from ~$50 million to ~$40 million.
