the soviet experiment conceived of a new man who was unto himself a sort of factory line, endlessly adaptable, endlessly productive, endlessly tractable to the social will. the american experiment conceives of its new man as a twelve-lane highway packed bumper to bumper, hypoxic and loud and useless

you've heard about the New Soviet man. Behold the New American man. He is all in on baseball cards, has violently strong opinions on cartoons, comic book movies, and video games (and none on literature), and his deepest aspiration is to become rich by being a Prank Influencer

read the article making this argument and it just reinforced the 3d printing analogy. the industry hype with AI is 100x larger, but the pattern was a similar "this is going to change humanity" to "this is going to revolutionize specific industries" to "this will be a fun hobby for eccentrics"

Easy Solution: LLMs should be outlawed because if they're legal, people can freely harm and abuse them. This should satisfy everyone and raise no further questions

happy endangered species day, please keep in mind the amount of work done by those who have sought to preserve the lives and legacy of species that may have otherwise fallen out of the world today, it is work that is so important and relatively unseen.

vernor vinge's original idea of a "singularity" was more akin to the mathematical singularity that destroys a jointed robot that tries to move through it and thus attempts to reach infinite velocity. *everything* keeps accelerating, including acceleration, until it becomes impossible to understand.

i wonder if anyone's been working on training deep learning models (not specifically LLMs) on a combination of programs and their abstract syntax trees. what if you could diffuse a program into another, simpler shape
