This is a joke, but this is one reason car-dependent suburbs are actually terrible places to raise kids. You have to drive them everywhere. Kids resent the lack of autonomy. Parents resent the drain on their time.

i just want my kids to be able to walk to the store to get stuff so I don't have to.

They market their cars as weapons and we allow them on the same roads as children cycling to school. And I still get weird middle-aged men in my notifications obfuscating for and defending this. This is not a serious society.

Let's face it. Cowgate is the capital's original 'traffic sewer'. 🐀 🐀 🐀 Most local residents are not car owners. Most visitors walk. Time to open it with space for safely walking through / close to through traffic. This in turn will reduce rush hour queues in Grassmarket using this East West route.

Forced car dependency robs society of any chance at financial freedom. America doesn't have a "love obsession with cars", they simply have not been given a choice.

Solidarity. Always hear plenty about anti-social behaviour from young folk & forget adults are guilty of anti-social behaviour on a daily basis. Speeding, engine idling, fireworks, pavement parking, smoking at the school gates, not being able to put rubbish in bins properly, fly tipping etc…

Not all delivery trucks are justifiable in cities. We can create jobs, boost sustainable transportation, and create safer streets with better infrastructure through cargo bike logistics. The solutions, designs, and tools already exist. All we seem to lack is the political will to implement them.

⚡📮Nice work @royal-mail.bsky.social, who have just announced the launch of a new fleet of over 100 micro electric vehicles, replacing 52 vans. Better for the climate and for deliveries. This is exactly the kind of move we need to see for cities free of diesel vans! #ElectrifyLondon

I think there are issues with the scheme, specifically that higher earners save more than lower earners. The focus should be to improve the savings for lower earners rather than placing limits on the scheme. Every person that rides a bike is a fitter person, saving the NHS money.

Currently a 10 minute wait for pedestrians/cyclists at the London Road/Leith Walk junction. On a typical 1 mile walking commute, 1/3rd of it could spent waiting at this single junction. Pathetic from Edinburgh Council, who claimed that the changes here would have no impact on active travel.

They've resolved the motor vehicle issue by making pedestrians take 30 mins to get through the endless series of junctions and crossings. Success, I guess.

To address safety issues (bc of drivers) my kids’ school recently changed the pick up process to get rid of the car pick up line entirely. Caregivers have to park nearby & walk up to the blacktop to get their kids. It’s calmer, safer, and bikes can still roll right up onto the blacktop.

Any Edinburgh cycling people know how you're supposed to turn right from the new Great Junction Street cycle path onto Leith Walk? I've done this a few times now and I can't figure it out Otherwise Leith Connections cycle path working well though! Delighted to be avoiding the cobbles!

Over that period there have been around 5,000 road traffic casualties in and around Edinburgh, including 60 fatalities. The difference in risk-tolerance is pretty stark.

The 7 year closure of Edinburgh’s Radical Road is appalling. Having attended a site visit last month I fail to see why the partial reopening now planned in 2026 has taken so long. It needs to happen as promised and be the start of improvements in paths across the Park www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
