This morning, the Dutch Cycling Embassy was invited to join the flock of students cycling to Matsuyama Higashi High School in Japan's Ehime Prefecture. It was a joy to see the huge number of teenagers riding together, in a city where nearly 90% of secondary school students travel by bike every day.

This week, the DCE was in Matsuyama, Japan for a workshop titled, "The Meaning of Hosting Velo-City and Learning From Bicycle Policies of Europe". Ehime Prefecture officials invited us share our insights and expertise, as they strive to leave a meaningful and lasting legacy for the 2027 conference.

This week, the DCE are in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to join and participate in the Rio Construcao Summit 2025. On the sidelines we explored local cycling infrastructure and exchanged insights with local partners, sharing Dutch expertise while learning from the Brazilian context.

On Thursday, a new fast cycle route, the F2, was officially opened between Den Bosch and Zaltbommel. The 15-kilometre route connects key towns across the provinces of Noord-Brabant and Gelderland, crossing both the river Maas and the provincial border. Read more: buff.ly/AJsDKiV

With 12,500 bike parking spaces, Utrecht Centraal Station is one of the best examples the Dutch have to offer of the seamless way they’ve chained the bicycle and the train into a single form of mobility that connects people to all of their daily needs: housing, employment, education, and healthcare.

In the Netherlands, you will often see paths such as this one. Separated, wide, and surrounded by greenery. By making cycling infrastructure safe and enjoyable, it is less of a hurdle to travel by bike.

Last year, a temporary parking structure for 800 bicycles was built at ‘s‑Hertogenbosch Station. Equipped with VelopA racks (#DCEnetwork), this short-term measure addresses the current shortage of bicycle parking spaces. It is intended to be dismantled and displaced in 2030.

The Trekvaartbrug ("Tow Path Bridge") is a new cycling bridge over the Haarlemmertrekvaart canal in the Municipality of Teylingen. "Utrecht we are back!" MOBY Bikes (#DCEnetwork) is reviving the beloved Cargoroo service for shared electric cargo bikes. They plan to roll out up to 90 shared electric cargo bikes in both Utrecht and The Hague this month and expand this number to 150 bikes in both cities by February 2026.

The Westenholterbrug in Zwolle is a striking cycling bridge, serving as a direct connection between Zwolle’s city centre and the neighbourhood of Westenholte. The steel cable-stayed bridge spans a massive intersection for motor traffic, with gentle ramps and an S-shaped deck.
