In 2021, two new cycling bridges were opened on the border between Dutch places 's Hertogenbosch and Vught. Previously, there was a level crossing intersection but with the arrival of a new turbo roundabout for car traffic, this was no longer desirable in terms of safety and traffic flow. 🧵 1/3

The famous yellow and blue Dutch public transport bicycle (OV-fiets), with which nearly 6 million trips were made last year, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. For this special occasion, it's now available as a limited-edition balance bike for toddlers! 😍🤌

De Snelbinder cycle bridge. Opened in 2004, attached to the side of an existing 1879 railway bridge, it runs for 2km linking Nijmegen to Lent by bike, alongside trains. Same crossing, different century. This is what decades of serious investment in cycling and sustainable urban planning looks like.

As part of the Dutch 🇳🇱 initiative to boost cycling in the coming years, the government has identified a clear path forward via the "Tour de Force" plan: 1. Strengthen the network. 2. Improve bicycle parking. 3. Stimulate bicycle use.

This is the Neude in Utrecht. It spent decades in the late 20th century as a car park before being returned to the people and becoming a vibrant public square once again. Your city could do this too - it’s a political choice.
